Meningioma
Meningioma is a type of tumor that develops from the meninges, the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord. In most cases, it is slow-growing and non-cancerous (benign), but as it enlarges or depending on its location, it can press on the brain or nerves and cause serious symptoms. In rare cases, it may also become malignant.
Types
Grade I (Benign Meningioma)
The most common type, slow-growing, and often completely removable through surgery.
Grade II (Atypical Meningioma)
Grows more rapidly and has a higher chance of recurrence.
Grade III (Malignant/Anaplastic Meningioma)
A rare but aggressive form that may spread into nearby tissues.
Types Based on Location
- Convexity meningioma – Located on the outer surface of the brain
- Parasagittal/Falx meningioma – Near the midline of the brain
- Skull base meningioma – At the lower part of the skull
- Spinal meningioma – Near the spinal cord
Symptoms
