What is Myositis?
Myositis is a rare autoimmune neuromuscular disorder in which the body's immune system mistakenly attacks the muscles. This leads to muscle inflammation, pain, weakness, and fatigue. The condition usually progresses gradually and may sometimes affect other organs such as the lungs, skin, and heart.
Types of Myositis
Polymyositis
Inflammation and weakness affecting multiple muscles.
Dermatomyositis
Characterized by red or purple skin rashes along with muscle inflammation.
Inclusion Body Myositis (IBM)
Commonly affects older adults and causes gradual muscle wasting and weakness.
