What is Sjögren's Syndrome?
Sjögren's Syndrome is an autoimmune disease in which the body's immune system mistakenly attacks its own salivary and tear glands. This leads to dryness of the eyes, dryness of the mouth, and may affect other organs as well. The disease usually progresses slowly and may occur alongside other autoimmune disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).
Types
Primary Sjögren's Syndrome
Only Sjögren's Syndrome symptoms are present without any associated autoimmune disease.
